Maris said he wanted to wait until spring training to declare his intentions, then added, “If you’re going to trade me, tell me now and I’ll send in my retirement papers to you right away.” In November 1966, Yankees general manager Lee MacPhail called Maris and asked about his plans. Unhappy in New York and embarrassed by his declining performance, Maris planned to assess his future during the off-season and make a decision about whether to continue playing.Īt 32, Maris was “almost positive” he would retire, according to the book “Roger Maris: Baseball’s Reluctant Hero.” 233 with 13 home runs in 119 games for the 1966 Yankees. Unexpectedly, the Cardinals took a chance on him. Weakened by injuries that stripped him of his power and reduced his mobility, Roger Maris appeared unwanted and was considering retiring after the 1966 season, five years after he hit 61 home runs for the Yankees and broke Babe Ruth’s major-league record. White mineral oil was first used in the 1870s when ChesebroughBrooklyin found that it was very good for healing injuries he had sustains. This is done to control and improve the melt flow rate of finished polymer for releasing properties or changing its physical characteristics. The food grade white mineral oils are used in pan oils and dough dividers to suppress dust in grain silos, and they are also used as lubricants in food-handling equipment, for controlling foam in vinegar production, beet sugar, improving the leather tanning process and in food wrapping paper to keep foods crisp in packaging. You can easily find NF grade and USP grade white mineral oils in most products, typically antibiotics, tissues, sunscreens, lotions, and baby oils. The plastics industry also uses white mineral oils, typically in the product of polymers, thermoplastic elastomers, polyolefins, and polystyrene. The oils resist moisture, extend, soften, smoothen, and lubricate in most formulations. White mineral oils are the best for use as a blending base for pharmaceutical products and personal care, but it is their inert nature that makes them so beneficial. The oil is biologically and chemically stable, and doesn’t support pathogenic bacterial growth, which makes it the standard choice of oil in most industries. They are odorless, tasteless, colorless, hydrophobic, and don’t change their color over time. White mineral oils are highly refined mineral oils, and are composed of saturated aliphatic and alicyclic nonpolar hydrocarbons. A Guide to White Mineral Oil and Its Uses I'm sure there are even better options, i'm not an expert on afking, but please at least bring SOMETHING. If you ever worked with Network Security Groups in Azure, you know they can become rather complex. There is another benefit if you use Azure Bastion instead of a Jump Box Virtual Machine. Azure Bastion connects directly to the private IP of the Virtual Machine. That improves the overall Virtual Machine security. As the service is streaming the RDP/SSH session over TLS using port 443 (HTTPs), there are no additional firewall exceptions needed.Īnother benefit is that the Azure Virtual Machine does not need any Public IP to connect to. Azure always uses firewall traversal for RDP/SSH and a HTML 5 based web client to connect to the Virtual Machine. The next very important aspect is the Remote Session over TLS. When enabling these features, you can enforce users logging into the Portal using Multiple Factors of Authorization, connecting from a trusted device or IP Address. With the access of Azure Bastion via the Azure Portal, you can enhance the user experience and security by using Azure Active Directory Features like Multi-Factor Authentication and Conditional Access as well as Azure Role-Based Access Control. The largest and most beneficial use for Azure Bastion is the enhancement of security. I will now provide some information about those. Benefits and Boundaries of Azure BastionĪs a Platform service, Azure Bastion comes with great benefits but also with its boundaries. Within the next part of the post, I will provide you with more information on that topic. Azure Bastion will relay the https request directly to the RDP or SSH port of the Virtual Machine.Īzure Bastion is deployed within a Microsoft environment and represented to the customer as a single service without exposing the high available infrastructure behind the service.įrom an architecture point of view, it looks like shown below.Īzure Bastion is a great service, but it does come with its boundaries. There is also no need for special agents or client software installed on the Virtual Machine. When you use Azure Bastion, the Virtual Machine within the environment can be encapsulated and does not need any public IP and can be accessed privately. You directly connect from the Azure Portal using TLS to encrypt the traffic. With Azure Bastion, Microsoft provides a seamless and secure RDP and SSH connection directly to a Virtual Machine within the same Virtual Network or Peered Virtual Network. The Azure Bastion ServiceĪzure Bastion is a Microsoft Azure managed Platform as a Service ( PaaS) environment that is deployed inside of Virtual Network. In this article, you’ll learn how to set up and run Azure Bastion to provide the optimal level of security for your Virtual Machines. It allows connecting to Azure Virtual Machines using a secure browser like Google Chrome, Edge, or Firefox via the Azure Portal. Azure Bastion can be seen as a Jump Host or Secure Admin Station as a service. And in one efficient move, by casting someone already loved by the book community ever since his role in Narnia’s Prince Caspian, and who had already been fancast as the Darkling across the internet, Netflix’s Shadow & Bone adaptation was off to a stellar start. And Ben Barnes was an unlikely wish, so much of the fandom had no clue what to expect.Įxcept. Sean O’Pry had the face and the Darkling’s cold quartz eyes, but he was a model rather than an actor. One of the fandom’s favourite fancasts was model Sean O’Pry (who had excellent Darkling vibes in Taylor Swift’s music video Blank Space), and another popular contender was actor Ben Barnes. The Darkling (or General Kirigan, as he’s known in the show) was set to be the biggest challenge: finding someone who’s hot but feels immortal, and can effectively demonstrate calculating wisdom? It’s a daunting task, and there’s pressure of fan expectations on top of that. The first hurdle any book-to-screen adaption comes across is casting, and it’s here that Shadow & Bone pole-vaults the hurdle. But the show runner, Eric Heisserer, has made his respect for the fandom clear. Whilst Shadow & Bone is meant to capture a wide audience across ages, the core focus remains the young adult audience the books were released to rather than the older audiences Game of Thrones and The Witcher cater for.Īs with any YA adaptation, Shadow & Bone comes equipped with a passionate fanbase that some critics choose to deride. In fact, it’s slightly futile to compare every new fantasy show to Game of Thrones it is pitting new and untested shows against a cultural behemoth, and it only hinders the success of getting new fantasy shows out there when everyone tries to measure them up against a multi-million dollar production. Some critics are saying Shadow & Bone is Netflix’s newest attempt to recapture the popularity of Game of Thrones, but I’d point to Netflix’s other fantasy series The Witcher for that. And now the show is out, I can see it’s one made with care, love and respect. When an adaption was announced I was excited but wary, knowing how adaptations had turned out in the past – but when the trailers began releasing, I swayed more and more to quietly hopeful. Unsurprisingly, I’m very attached to the books. I’ve loved Shadow & Bone and the Grishaverse for a really long time – since the first book came out in 2012, to be exact. |
